There are times I look at Then and Now photos and I just cringe.
I know that we all had to start somewhere, and my older photos weren’t horrible, but it’s always entertaining to me to see where I started. I’m so grateful for those first clients that were so willing to be working with me in the first place. They knew I was new in business, but they were so willing to be my first clients, and I will forever be grateful of them.
It’s always a good idea to continue growth. I don’t think I will ever be 100% happy with my work, because I always want to be getting better! But for now, let’s take a look back at some then and now photos.
We’ll start with these rings shots. The ‘then’ was taken at the very first wedding I shot solo, and as the primary. Just your average ring in the flower shot. It was alright, but nothing like the now! 🙂
Cake photos can be kind of challenging. This ‘then’ was just at a wedding that I was at, I think even before I started my business, but to say I have improved I think is an understatement.
Bridal Prep is always a fun time for me. I didn’t think I was bad at it in the past, but now I know more about getting some great light for getting ready shots.
Oh first dance photos…..This comparison isn’t even fair, you guys! Again, the ‘then’ was that first wedding I shot solo-harsh on camera, direct flash. YUCK. The Now is with three OCF, and helps the couple POP off the background. So so good.Reception tablescape shots….’Then’ was with the harsh on camera flash…again…and NOW with three OCF in separate corners of the room.Bouquet shots. I think every wedding photographer does this shot some way or another. It really hasn’t changed much for me, but now i make sure i don’t have the crazy lighting surrounding the flowers…. This ‘then’ was literally the “prom pose.” I would tell couples that, and i didn’t know how to get a good photo out of it. I’ve tweaked my couples posing since then, thank goodness. Some wider couple shots here. Just paying more attention to lighting now-a-days…And another bride and groom shot. I pay more attention to how the bride looks, and i want my couples interacting with each other more than staring into the camera…. Just makes for more romantic images! 😀It’s always good to look back and see what you were doing well and what you could improve on. I think I’ve improved a ton from where I was three years ago, and I can’t wait to see how much more I improve over the next three years!! Thanks again for all my clients that were willing to take a shot with me in the beginning. We all have to start somewhere, and I’m SO glad it was with you guys! 😀
