Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

Thanksgiving is always the time of year that we try to remember what we’re thankful for.

I know what you’re thinking. “Misty, I don’t TRY to remember what I’m grateful for. I know what I’m grateful for.” But do we really. Do we sit down and think what we’re grateful for all the time. Or are we just thankful for things when we have to be.

This year I tried to take part of the 30 Days of Thanks that seems to come every year at this time. I did pretty good….for about 4 days. Granted I left to Arizona and was busy with photography conference stuff and wasn’t even really on social media to post on Instagram what I was thankful for that day, but I didn’t even stop to think what I would have posted those days. I simply just ignored what I told myself I was going to do and kept being “too busy.”

It’s too easy to become “too busy.”

It’s too easy to not remember everything we have.

It’s too easy to overlook the small things.

Too.Dang.Easy.

The first few days of my 30DOT were pretty simple.

Day #1- good friends
Day #2-clients who turn into friends and trust me when I ask them to do silly things
Day #3- Majestic 380 foot waterfalls, and for our bodies. That we can push ourselves to do hard things even when we’re out of shape.
Day #4- Grateful that I only got patted down once at TSA when I was at the airport. HA! I was clearly flying down to Arizona at this point.

and that was that. Four days. Pathetic really. So I decided my post today would be the remainder of my 30DOT.

I’m thankful for:
5. My husband. He deals with my crazy shenanigans. And he loves our baby girl more than I think he loves me at times. And it’s absolutely adorable.
6. My baby. She tests my boundaries every day, but showed me what it’s like to love something more than life. Wow. That was cheesy.
7. My health. Going back to number 3, i’m out of shape, and still manage to be healthy enough to do ‘most’ of the things I like to do. I’m working on the whole “out of shape” business. haha
8. I’m grateful for my church, and the knowledge of the gospel and what it has done for my life. I don’t talk about it often on my blog, but here goes nothing.
9. I’m grateful for Christ and that he atoned for our sins. I literally would be lost without him. He’s my brother, my Savior, and my friend. And we can get through everything knowing that he’s been there. He’s felt our pain, and our sorrow. That’s always comforting to me.
10. My family. The drive me insane. Especially a specific sister, but the time with them is never long enough, so it’s a good thing we have forever.
11. Photography. That seems like a no-brainer, but it’s more than just my business. I’m grateful for a creative outlet that I am able to share with others. I think it’s a waste when we are gifted with something and are unable to share it with those around us.
12. The freedoms that we have. This country was based on freedom, and though some people don’t agree with the freedom to vote through the election this past month, i’m grateful that we can have our voices heard.
13. Going along with that….i’m grateful for prayer. I think our country needs a lot of that.
14. Parents that love me unconditionally. That was harder in my high school days than it is now. My parents are some of my closest friends. We talk multiple times throughout the week. Sometimes they get sick of it because then we have nothing to say to each other. HA!
15. My daddy. I love him. LOTS! And I love that we get to do fun things together like ride Harleys. 🙂
16. Dogs. They are the epitome of unconditional love. You can beat them for being naughty and two seconds later all they want to do is lick you in the face and snuggle. That’s love.
17. Technology. What in the world did we do in our spare time before smart phones. Sometimes I forget….
18. Also going along with that, I’m grateful for the mountains and being able to unplug. It was amazing this summer going on so many hikes and not having ANY service…I may be re-evaluating my decision this summer doing that on my own though….
19. Warm weather. I hate winter, but it’s comforting to know that I can hop on a plane and a few hours later I can be somewhere warm. I like that.
20. The internet, and having a huge database of knowledge at our fingertips, most of the time, at the touch of a button.
21. Chocolate. Enough said.
22. Fuzzy blankets. Ask my hubby. He’ll tell you we have like 30 and I use maybe 2.
23. Cancer treatments– this time of year reminds me of when Justin was going through Chemo and Radiation a few years back for his Hodkins Lymphoma. Not too long around, one of his uncles (I think) died from the same thing. My mother in law is also having to go through them -again- and it’s amazing that they can give us more time with the ones we love.
24. Cancer doctors and nurses- I don’t know how they do it. They are like angels sent to heaven.
25. Being smart. I’m not trying to be conceded, promise. But i’m grateful that I’m a pretty smart kid. If I would have had my you-know-what together, I probably would have gone on to be a doctor or something, but instead I stuck with the dental field. I’m always amazing at the human body, and I could probably still tell you the bones of the body, but maybe not all 206.
26. Caffeine. I’m not a coffee or a tea drinker, but there are days that I definitely need a little help with some pop.
27. Harvest. It’s always interesting to me how much effort harvest takes, and how little people think about it. It’s one of the roughest times of the year, but we get SO much out of.
28. Electricity. That’s a bit of a stretch, but I don’t know what I would do without it. I watch shows that are based back in the day, and there’s definitely a reason I was born now and not then.
29. Shoes. This one is right up there with #28. The pioneers were TOUGH people.
30. I’m grateful to be alive and precisely where I need to be. I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for me! 🙂

Wow. That was a bunch of things to be thankful for, and it took about an hour to sit and think about all of them, but I made it! What have you been thankful for this year?

Misty
