You would think that picking your colors would be easy! Think of your favorite color, and then another that looks good. Oh, if only it was that easy, right!? Any girl that has been a bride before knows that it’s definitely not that easy. There’s so many options out there, that’s choosing your wedding colors can be one of the toughest choices you have, but here’s a few tips that can make things a bit easier
Location, Location, Location….and Wedding Colors
If you have an idea of what colors you would like to use, keep this in mind when you choose your wedding venue. On the other hand, if you don’t have any idea of what colors you would like, then you can be inspired by the venue you choose. If you go with a rustic venue, like a barn, that’s red or even brown, think lighter hues. Just keep in mind that if the colors you love don’t mesh with your venue, you may end up spending more on decor to help hide those areas!
Inspiration Piece
For me, it always makes things easier if I start with a theme. If you have a favorite color, have that your inspiration piece. If you have a favorite piece of china, choose that! It’s always easier to have one piece to base your color scheme off of, and use that to follow through with your vision! If you love calla lilies and have dreamed about having them in your wedding since you were a little girl, BOOM! Purple should definitely be one of your wedding colors. If you have a special item that you plan on using, like your grandmother’s china, make sure that it is cohesive with the other colors you pick! Make sure you have your priorities!
Seasons Matter
If you are getting married in the spring, generally soft pastel tones are great wedding colors. Summer you can get more into bright bold tones, and fall is generally great for earthy tones. We can’t forget winter though. Silver and any deep hue goes great for those cold weather months!
Check Your Closet or Home
If you are still stumped by what colors you want to use, just step into your closet. What colors do you have a lot of? What colors do you not have!? If you have a lot of red, then red would be a perfect color for you. Also look around your home. It’s always helpful to have your wedding decor match the decor of your home. They you can reuse some of those wedding decorations you purchased as home decor. Win, win!
Color Wheel
Remember in first or second grade when you learned about the color wheel? It’s a great tool when you are looking to find the perfect colors for your big day!
Complimentary colors are the ones that are opposite on the wheel. They tend to work best together, but also analogous, or colors right next to each other, work great together too! A good way to create your color palette is to have bright color and pair is with a more neutral color. You can’t go wrong with that!
All in all, choosing your colors shouldn’t be as stressful as some make it out to be. With a little bit of thought, and these tips, you should be able to find your wedding color palette in no time!
