Amidst all the wedding craziness lately, I managed to let this sweet little Kennewick newborn photography session sneak through the crack. I have NO idea how I let that happen! This little newborn is even more special to me than most because she’s my niece! My closest sister, Jenny, had her June 20th, around 7 AM. That’s no typo. It was JUNE!
They went to the hospital around 3:30 AM. When they showed up, they put my sister into like a “holding” room to make sure that things were going to keep progressing (as I think to myself “uh, it’s her 5th kid, I think things are going to keep going”). Jenny’s contractions started to get a more intense and closer together, but around 6:30, my brother-in-law left to get something to eat. If I recall correctly, he came back around 6:45, the doctor came in and checked Jenny, and said “Your going to have a baby!” I think it’s safe to say that things kept progressing!
When Eva was born, she had been in distress and the meconium was in the amniotic sac and she aspirated some of it (yuck!) so she had to stay in the NICU for some time. The doctor explained to Jenny that it wasn’t like actual poo, but that it was more like tar. For those of you that have changed a brand new baby’s poopy diaper knows how hard it is to get that stuff off! But now it was in my sweet nieces lungs. She was hooked up to oxygen, and monitored for a few days, but the next day, she was doing even better! They were able to take her off O2 and she was breathing on her own, but it was still a struggle for her to breastfeed, because she couldn’t breath 100% normally. She continued to make progress, and they got to go home the third day (I think. remember it was in June guys.) Jenny had a scare the day they brought her home because she was breathing very fast, but the doctor had to remind her that they breathe fast anyways. Being a momma is hard work, you guys!! Especially when your body and it’s hormones are going crazy because you just had this 7 pound baby!
I got to see her 10 days new, and she is a little angel. She fell asleep faster than any newborn I have worked with, and she is just perfect (though I may be a little bias). So without further ado…Meet Eva Lynn!
