So you have your wedding date planned, your photographer is booked, and now it’s time for your engagement photos! There are many things that are being planned and coordinated that are probably causing some stress, but i’m here to give you 5 tips for a perfect engagement session!
Here’s 5 tips and tricks I have learned along the way to help things go well for your engagement session!
1. Share your story
Your engagement session can be a way to help explain your proposal, or your love story! Where did you meet or propose? Where do you hang out often? Is there somewhere you two ALWAYS go together? An activity you don’t do without your significant other? These are a great way to make your engagement session unique to yourselves, and more meaningful! And it’s fun for you too!
2. Feel amazing!
There’s something about when you look amazing, you tend to feel amazing. Wear clothes that aren’t only comfortable, but that you feel good in. Also, brides, this is a great time for a run through for hair and makeup. You’ll get to know your hair and MUA better, and they’ll get some hands on experience with you before the big day comes! If you’re not planning on hair and makeup for your wedding day (though i highly advise it), then find someone who can do it for your engagement session (and then i’ll advise on using them for your wedding day)! Professional hair and makeup ALWAYS- repeat ALWAYS- looks better on camera. Again, when you look amazing, you feel amazing. And you better believe i’ll be telling you how amazing you look!
3. Make it Real
There’s nothing more -uh- fake than getting your photo taken, most of the time. It’s hard to be natural when you’re staring down the barrel of a lens. With help of #1, when you have an area that means something to you, it’s already more real. It’s an area you are comfortable in, your clothes are comfortable, you are looking and feeling great, so just enjoy it. Most of your engagement session with me will involve me telling you to just ignore me. I want that silly smile you give your significant other, that look of admiration he has for you, the connection between you two. We’ll get a few shots of the both of you looking into my camera, but really, i want to tell your story.
4. Relax
Give yourself time to relax and just hang out and be beautiful. Your engagement session will last about an hour or two with the best light, the perfect time of day, in an area you are comfortable in. I want you to be in the moment. Enjoy the time with your significant other, and we’ll get some great shots in the process.
5. Have fun with it!
You’re in an area your comfortable in, you look good, you feel good, you’re relax, so let’s have some fun. Don’t worry about that silly face you made as i clicked my shutter. I’m more interested in the silly giggle you gave afterwards and the way he looked at you because of it. I want you to remember how it felt to be a fiance, and how happy you were. So let’s have a great time! Laughing is not optional. 🙂
Photos from this engagement session were of the newlywed couple, Mr. & Mrs. McDonald!!! Check out their wedding post HERE! I can’t believe what the groomsmen did!
