A few weeks ago I did some service for something that I absolutely love. I was able to take photos for Mattawa’s Distinguished Young Women participants. For the last few years, it’s something I’ve done to help my community and also make sure those girls had some great images to help remember those fun times. These girls put about a months worth of practicing and it all comes down to one night. It’s a lot of fun to be a part of and I’m grateful they keep asking me back each year.
Distinguished Young Women is a nationwide scholarship program that teaches the participants important skills like interviewing, public speaking, self-confidence and more. It’s fun to watch the girls over the weeks of practice as they start to get more and more confident with themselves. They are judged in five different categories : Scholastics, Interview, Talent, Fitness, and Self-Expression. For those that win in their area, they can go compete at a state level, and then at the national level. It’s a pretty great program, and they do some amazing things for these girls.
This year, there are eight seven girls running for the title of the 2017 Mattawa’s Distinguished Young Women. (Unfortunately, after we took pictures, one of the girls had to drop out due to health reasons.) It’s going to be a tough go at it, and I wish all of these girls luck!!
If you’re in the area this Friday, you can come see these amazing girls compete for the title!! And maybe even see yours truly sing or something. 🙂
