Cave B Winery

Driving in the desert, you wouldn’t ever imagine that you could stumble upon such a great wedding venue like Cave B Winery, a central Washington wedding venue. To get there, you take a long winding road through the sagebrush and sands of eastern Washington, only to arrive at their gorgeous entrance lined with trees to lead you to your destination. It’s like night and day from what you were just driving in to the luscious grounds of Cave B. When you drive up to the Inn, you see the beautiful architecture and design of their many buildings, all with the gorgeous view of the Columbia River Gorge.

I had the opportunity to meet with Della, who wears many hats at the winery- director of sales, assistant general manager, and she also is part of the team that helps plan your wedding. I got to ask her a few questions about the winery itself, and I learned more about the grounds and the owners.

The dream of Cave B winery came from a couple, Vince and Carol, who were searching for the perfect area to build a winery. They even traveled to Italy and learn from the best and did a lot of scientific research to find the best area, one of them being Eastern Washington, specifically the location of Cave B. After the initial start, they built a small stage that they thought would be nice for some jazz music, to add some ambiance as their customers drank their wine. The only entrance fee was to buy a bottle of wine. The concerts kept expanding, and pretty soon they sold the stage and the grounds surrounding it to Live Nation, and they have made it what the Gorge is today. Vince and Carol wanted to focus mainly on the winery, and they started creating more and more to add to the winery.

They have so many options as far as lodging goes for your big day. They have the rooms at the Inn itself, their super cute Cliffehouses, the adorable Yurts, and my favorite, the Cavern rooms! You can enjoy a gorgeous view through your floor to ceiling windows in the Inn and the Cliffhouses…

There’s so many amazing details that they have taken into consideration with each location, you’ll have to come more than once to appreciate it all, and your guests will LOVE it!

When it comes to wedding locations, you have four to choose from to really personalize your wedding. They have both indoor and outdoor locations that can accommodate about 150 guests.

You can choose the Piazza which is a gorgeous green area, surrounded by a grapevine trellis. It is great for both your wedding ceremony and reception, and will really give you the feeling of being in wine country.

An indoor location is the Estate Room. With 20 foot ceilings and a balcony with windows surrounding the east side of the building, your guests can take in the gorgeous scenery all night, and enjoy our perfect eastern Washington sunsets as the night ends.

Atop the Cavern rooms is a beautiful location for your ceremony. Your guests will overlook the Columbia River Gorge from 900 feet above the river.  It’s breathtaking. Also, looking up the hill, you have a great view of the Inn and the Cliffehouses than your guests can enjoy.

The other option for an outdoor, more intimate ceremony is the winery pond. It can accommodate 20-50 people overlooking their pond, filled with bass. It’s a serene location and would be a great location for a peaceful ceremony.

The venue doesn’t book weddings the weekends that they know the Gorge is having their larger festivals (i.e. Paradiso, Watershed, Dave Matthews), so don’t plan on that. Also, if you are wanting confetti or wishing lanterns at your ceremony or reception, don’t plan on it. Those are just the two things Della told me they won’t allow, but other than that, you are free to explore the possibilities. They want to make sure your day is perfect for you.

When I asked Della what one of the most interesting things about Cave B is, she said in general, it’s amazing that they grow 18 different varieties of grapes, and all of their wine is produced there, and hardly anything goes to waste.  Wedding wise, she said that the help of the chef, they work with their couples to provide the menu that they want, and it’s always amazing food! Also, that when you book the venue for your wedding day, you don’t have to pick just one location for the day! If you want to have the ceremony at the Cavern Theatre, your cocktail hour at the winery pond, and your reception at the Estate room, they’ll make it happen! There’s many different arrangements that you can use, and she hasn’t seen one the same.

A big thing that make Cave B Winery unique is the location. It’s located in the middle of the desert, but it’s an oasis. It’s close enough to bigger cities that they can cater to out of town guests, but you still feel like you are escaping that rush. The river is right there, you have a gorgeous view, killer sunsets, and they want to make your wedding day special for you. Each one matters to them and you aren’t just another wedding.

I asked what are the ‘big picture’ plans for the venue, and a few great ideas are planned. There’s the possibility of adding a golf course one day, an equestrian area (that I think would be AMAZING), and the possible addition of a small auditorium that they could have their own music (though not as grandiose as the Gorge, of course). Whatever they end up doing in the future, it will be hard to top what they have going right now. It really is a gorgeous area and a great way to escape every day life. It’s peaceful. It’s relaxing. And it would make a great location for any wedding!
