I knew this Hop Farm Engagement Session would be fun, but I was blown away with these two. They braved the frigid wind with me, climbed on top of the building for the hop sorter, and waited for the sun to pop out from behind the clouds, and you know what?! It was all freakin’ worth it! We also joked about our Netflix queues looking like we’re serial killers, our favorite true crime shoes, and Live PD. These guys get me.
From my first phone call with Kendra, I knew that we would get along just fine. We chatted on the phone like we were old friends and talked all about the two of them, jobs, how they met, their proposal. I soaked in all their details, and was so stoked when she said “YES!” to me as their wedding photographer. They’re getting married this July, and we’re all pretty happy that the weather will be much warmer on their wedding day.
I’d tell you all about how they met, but I think Kendra did it so well, i’ll let her take it from here! When I asked how they met she told me this:
“He was on a date with another gal (he won’t call it a date but he was wearing cologne on a Tuesday, I mean come on! Lol) I was their waitress at the local gastric pub, I knew her pretty well and I recognized Kolin so I kinda tried to lighten the mood (he seemed kinda nervous). After they ate she left promptly, Kolin ended up staying for a beer with a couple mutual friends that had showed up and I joined the group when I clocked out. We chit chatted a bit that night and I kind of thought that was it. Then he kept showing up!! Once or twice a week and he always just so happened to show up just when I was about off. Our first official date wasn’t till almost 4-5 months later and we’ve been together ever since.”
And then we talked about their proposal…
“Let’s be honest I will never live this down 🤦🏼♀️. Little back story when he asked what I wanted for my birthday I sent him a picture of a ring and we kinda joked about it and I told him if not then I guess I’ll take a mixer. The day before my birthday my present was all wrapped beautifully in the living room, it definitely wasn’t the size of a ring box so I was low key sad/upset/disappointed. Morning of my birthday/Thanksgiving Kolin asked if I wanted to open it and I said no we’ll open it when we get home. I always thought I would know when the day came, he would be nervous, his hands would sweat and he’d be quiet. My birthday he was perfectly normal so I thought for sure this wasn’t it! We went all day, my sad little self and didn’t get home till after 11 pm. So I open this big box and it’s the perfect mixer I wanted, color/size/attachments, it was perfect. I flip the box over there is a hand written note that asks if Kona (she’s our little dog) and I want to be apart of his wolf pack (he’s got three big dogs) forever and of course I start balling and turn around to him on one knee and he asks me to marry him.”
She obviously said yes and that brings us to today. I always love when my clients think of a location that is special to them. Kolin’s family has a hop farm and they have access to all that so we figured the perfect starting location for their photos would be the farm. We started in the hop sorter building. We climbed up to the top and Kolin said “Hope you don’t have a problem with heights.” HA! I don’t we were good, and we climbed up to the VERY top. It was windy, but pretty awesome up there! We got our shots at the farm and headed up to the road to the old Satus store (it was a happening place before the highway went in) and did our best to stay out of the frigid wind. These two even braved the cold for about 10 minutes waiting for the sun to come back out from behind a cloud to finish our session. They were troopers!!! I laughed real hard, they think i’m crazy, it was a great time. I’m so excited to celebrate with them on their wedding day, and be much warmer then. 🙂
