I’ve been on a roll with my 2018 couples, and Kiona Winery engagement session was no different!! I had SO much fun getting to know Calvin and Kelly more during their session! We also had perfect weather, and it doesn’t get much better light than this. It’s called golden light for a reason! 🙂
These two wouldn’t have known growing up that they would be marrying someone they rode the school bus with in the future. Calvin was a little older than Kelly and, as Kelly made sure to tell me, got kicked off the bus before too long. They lived in the same small town, but ran with different crowds, and didn’t really take notice of each other until they both were living on the other side of the mountains. They had both gone home for Thanksgiving break, and gone to the one bar in their hometown. Calvin ended up calling Kelly the next day….because she forgot her purse at the bar. They started talking and they figured out that while Kelly was going to school in Bellingham, Calvin was working in Seattle. Kelly would take trips down to Seattle to spend time with friends, but a few weeks later, Calvin called her up to see if she would be his date for a work party. Kelly said yes because she didn’t have much else to do that weekend, and it ended up being Calvin’s work Christmas party! Lucky enough, they hit it off and have been together ever since.
They both share their love of doggies, and have two gorgeous Bernese mountain dogs who get to go on fun adventures with them- camping and fishing. Family is important to both of them, including playing with their nieces and nephews, and trying to new places and flavors to eat! We also got to chatting about Kelly’s love affair with Gilmore Girls, and their shared love of Game of Thrones. They’re my kind of people! 🙂
Speaking of dogs, they initially had an amazing trip planned out to go on a snowshoeing trip (where Calvin had planned on proposing), but had to cancel last minute because one of their sweet pups had to have emergency bilateral shoulder surgery!! He had strict movement restrictions, which one would expect after a major surgery, and they decided it would be better to not test his limits. Kelly had a feeling he was going to ask her so she kept pestering him, and asking when it was going to happen. Calvin wanted it to be a surprise,
On a random Tuesday night in February, Kelly had gotten home from work. She was still in her scrubs from working late, and came home to dinner on the table, candles, wine of their dog in the crate with a note that said “mom, will you marry dad?” Kelly turned around, and Calvin was down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Kelly said “That moment made an ordinary night the best night of my life.” It was a reminder to be grateful for the little things and their ordinary days together. ADORABLE!!!
I had an awesome evening with these two chatting all about some of our favorite shows, making them be silly, and finding how great Calvin is at making pizza. HA! 🙂 I can’t wait to celebrate with them next summer! 🙂
