I need to honest. I have a serious passionate hate for winter. It’s deep in my bones. I don’t like the cold. I don’t like not seeing the sun for days on end. BUT I love the images that I can get in the winter. The light isn’t as harsh as summer light, and when the sun does come out, it helps warm things up a little. I have gotten to do a few session since the snow has been in our area, but this one for Amy’s Bridal Boutique may have been the COLDEST.
Last Tuesday, we had our monthly meeting for our Rising Tide Society group when we started talking about getting a photo shoot together. The idea was maybe a little crazy considering it was in the single digits almost all week, but we managed to get it all together and we had models that were willing to freeze for us. My co-leader, Alex, worked her magic along side the Amy of Amy’s Bridal to get flowers from My Garden Overfloweth, and they were amazing! I just love pops of red/pink in fall and winter florals. It makes my heart skip a beat. Like, everytime.
In anticipation for the shoot, I had to psyche myself up to be in the frozen tundra for an extended period of time. I wasn’t looking forward to that, but I knew that it would be worth it! As the time got closer to our shoot, it turned out that a few of our local photographers had things come up and they weren’t able to make it! That was disappointing. I always think it’s amazing to see how you can have one model, location, bouquet, and dress, but you can go SO much diversity from different photographers. It really is amazing!
Alex and myself were able to a short session before our actual planned shoot. She had a meeting come up at the same time as our shoot, and I knew that Raylee (who isn’t the best photo assistant YET) wouldn’t last too long hanging out with me all day. Our model, Libby was SUCH a trooper, and a bit of a popsicle once we got done, but it was absolutely worth it!
In the mean time, Deidra was getting hair and makeup done by Sherri of Say I Do: Bridal Beauty. Deidra is a gorgeous girl as it is, but she transformed her into a ice QUEEN!!! I love working with Deidra! The temperature managed to drop quite a bit once we got to start shooting, Raylee was in the car screaming, and so we had to leave early from that part of the shoot, but I did get some behind the scenes of Terra and Ellie working their magic!
Terra doin’ her thaaaang….
And Ellie showing us how this Mirrorless magic works…
One of the things I’m trying to do more of this year is shooting video along side my images. Video is SO different than photography, but I feel like it adds so so much to the story, and I absolutely love it. It makes me think outside of the box a bit, and I love that it’s a little bit of a challenge. It’s been fun to learn more and more about that, and get to experiment during shoots like this!
Thanks again to our models, Libby and Deidra for freezing like champs! “You guys da real MVP.” ????????
