So in this day and age, we’ve all seen a wedding or two with an unplugged ceremony. We’ve seen videos that people have made about how annoying it can be for everyone using their phones/ipads/giant old school cameras documenting your sweet friend’s wedding day when you just want to be celebrating the moment, but you’re staring into someone’s cookie-sheet sized screen. It can be a nightmare, but it can also be a sad thing for your photographer. Add into the equation a videographer on the day and things can get even more iffy- hence this post was born. If you are planning on having both a photographer and a videographer on your wedding day, here’s a few reasons why your photographer should contact your videographer.
Everyone On the Same Page
This is probably the BIGGEST reason that your photographer should contact your videographer. If you have hired a videographer to document your wedding day, chances are they are going to have at least two cameras on you AT ALL TIMES. If you’re lucky, there may even by three to fours cameras on you-and that’s not counting your photographer. With my weddings, you then add in two more photographers wielding cameras….see where i’m going with this.
If we’re all shooting the same subject (you!), and there’s upwards of 3-4 cameras on you at once, shooting in different directions, chances are there’s going to be one of us in someone’s shot. It’s so much easier as a photographer if I have taken the time to chat with the videographer before-hand to make sure we both know where we prefer to shoot, and make a game plan. Without doing that, sometimes you only have minutes to do so, and it can end up being a nightmare, even though YOU may never know about it.
Better Video and Photography
It’s so much easier once everyone is on the same page to make sure we don’t get into each other shots. I shot one wedding that had 4 videographers and 2 photographers. Unfortunately, those said videographers just worked under someone and didn’t have the experience to know that it’s not ok to jump in front of someone else’s shot. Luckily, the other photographer and myself didn’t miss any shots because of them, but they definitely made it harder on us to make sure we didn’t get them in the way. When your photographer is able to communicate with your videographer, it’s easier for them to let their crew know the game plan, and in turn, gives your both better video and photos of your entire day!
What We’ve Got Here Is a Failure to Communicate
If you can tell me what movie that’s from, you get 10 points! HA. Β Just like any other job, you can’t do your best without communication, and it’s no different when it comes to your wedding day. As long as your photographer and videographer communicate, things work out great, feelings don’t get hurt, shots don’t get missed, and you end up with the most beautiful memories to remember your special day! What else can you ask for?! π
And on that note, one of my FAVORITE videographers in the Tri-cities area is Tina (Miller) Phillips of Miller Media Films. The wedding videos she makes are beautiful, and I LOVE the promo video she made for my business! π She’s literally like a ninja when shooting video and the EASIEST videographer to shoot with. If you’re getting married in 2018, be sure to contact her sooner than later!! She’s the best! π
