There’s SO many blogs out there about the wedding dress. Tips for the best dress for your figure, should you really wear a white wedding dress, how to bustle the back of your dress. The list goes on and on, but what about the tips for our grooms out there. It HARDLY seems fair to me that our brides are given all this advice, but our grooms seem to be neglected. With this post today, I wanted to give those neglected rooms the secrets the suits, to help them a little one their wedding day attire.
Suits vs. Tuxedos
First off, let’s talk about the different between a suit and a tuxedo. All too often, people are confused by the two. They either think they are one in the same, or are confused which one is really which. They are pretty similar to each other, but there are differences. Tuxedos usually have satin or cloth covered buttons. Also, the piping on the pants is usually satin as well, where as a suits just matched the rest of the suit. FACT: Tuxedos don’t [generally] have belt loops because it’s expected to wear suspenders.
Pant Break
Not to be confused with the show “Pointe Break.” HA! Pant break is the amount of creasing at the bottom of the pants above the shoe. There really isn’t a right or wrong pant break. Well take that back. There definitely is a wrong. Think about a young kid in a pair of trousers that are WAY too big. The pant break is slouchy and looks unkempt. THAT’S a bad break. But depending who you ask, there are different opinions of what is the correct pant break.
Whatever break you decide is right for you, just make sure that it’s done, and your pants are hemmed correctly.
Button, Button. Who’s Got the Button?
Which button to button is a question I always get asked by the grooms I’m working with. For some crazy reason, one of the grooms I worked with this last summer told me the suit place told him to button the bottom button. Oh, I had to hold back my laughter. Even though you have two buttons, you NEVER button the bottom button. Not even when you are standing. And in the case that you have three buttons, still, just say no to that bottom button. The reasoning. I don’t think anyone really knows. Some say it’s because of King Edward. He was too, uh, large to button his lower button, and people started copying it. And it obviously stuck around over the years. Who really knows, though.
Tie It Up
Whether you have a bow tie, or a regular tie, if i don’t get asked about the button, the next most common question I get it “can you tie a tie!?”
First off, yes, I can! But second, it’s actually pretty simple, and I really don’t know how we survived without YouTube. There are SO many knots out there, but the most common is a Windsor knot. If that’s too simple for you, there’s a plethora of different ones out there!! Just make sure to practice before the big day! 😀
