This time of year is always kind of crazy for me. My hubby is busy with farming and never seems to be home, my baby (and my dog) just want to play 24/7, all day, every day, and I happen to get cabin fever more than I do in the winter. When the weather is gorgeous, and even when it’s not, I have a hard time just being content with being home. I want to be outside, enjoying life, and not just in my backyard (though in a crunch that will do). Friday’s are usually a crazy day for me though. Trying to get everything ready when I have a wedding the next day is overwhelming, and sometimes I just have to step away.

Last week I had one of those days.

There’s only so many times you can check and recheck to make sure all your batteries are charged, that you have your timeline printed off, that your second shooter knows where to go and when, and that your bride is ready to get hitched. I needed to get out of the house.

With a 2 year old, that kind of limits my options. Unless, of course I want to carry her in a carrier-which she usually hates. We live at least an hour from anything kind of fun to do, so that also means we have at least a 2 hour drive round trip to go as well. Luckily, we have a handy-dandy dvd player to keep her entertained most of that time. Anyways.

Earlier last week, I got to go on an adventure with my awesome clients, Jeremy and Aarika, and had SO much fun just being outside, enjoying the fresh air, and moving my body that I know I had to do it again soon. Friday came around, I got my to-do list done for my wedding the next day, I loaded up Raylee, and we were off to Palouse Falls.

If you don’t know what that is, don’t feel bad. According to the Washington Trails Association:

“The iconic Palouse Falls that has been deemed the official waterfall of Washington State is not to be missed. There are trails aplenty at Palouse Falls State Park with outstanding views of the waterfall fit for the whole family.

At the end of the last ice age, repeated glacial floods, known as the Missoula Floods, swept across eastern Washington carving out the unique scab-lands landscape we see today. Among the coulees, potholes, buttes, and plateaus, Palouse Falls remains as one of the magnificent and lasting remnants of these glacial floods. It is the only major waterfall left along this thousands of years old glacial flood path, and as of February 12, 2014, is Washington’s official state waterfall. Standing at a height of 198 feet and surrounded by striking basalt cliffs, the powerful waterfall lies on the Palouse River upstream of the confluence with the Snake River.”

I always thought Snoqualmie Falls was pretty important to us Washingtonians, but I guess I was mistaken. 😛

(Don’t mind the phone photo…it’s way easier to take a selfie with it than my camera ;))

We had a short little hike, got way too close to the edge, and Raylee had a pretty fun time. One of the best parts of the trip was the drive. Most people think that Washington is all green and rainy, which is so, so wrong. What most people don’t know is that the eastern part of the state looks a whole lot like this…

Dry-land wheat farming takes up a good portion of the eastern part of the state. And it’s pretty amazing.

And this is how you know you had a successful adventure:

…Now if only I could have slept on the way home, too! 😀 Do you know of any awesome hikes around Washington state!? Throw them at me! 😀 Until next time!
