One of the favorite parts of my job is showing people the glories of Central Washington. This couldn’t have been more true for this Frenchman Coulee Engagement session.

These two traveled all the way from Seattle to meet up with me around my neck of the woods. They both love this side of the state, and were more than willing to come this way for their engagement session. I showed them one of my favorite spots, the Frenchman Coulee, home of the Vantage Crags. It’s a place that many rock climbers come to for all sorts of amazing routes. You are surrounded by basalt pillars and it’s just gorgeous.

It was the first time I had met these two in real life, and I immediately felt like I knew them. Sarah and I had facetimed before they initial booked, and it was just like talking to an old friend, and it was no difference in person. I loved finally meeting them and getting to hear their story.

Their good friends had gotten married back in 2012, and these two met at the wedding. Nothing really came of that day- they were both busy with other friends and dating other people. Sarah was going to school at WSU (GO COUGS!), and Doug was at Western. It wasn’t until things started to slow down for them that their friends took them on a double date. They started things off slowly, but then made it official before Sarah went back to school in the fall. They spend their time together outside a ton! Hiking, boating, snowboarding, the works- I wasn’t the least bit surprised when they were down to climb some rocks for me during their session. 🙂

Their proposal story was something else too. Doug had planned to get away from rainy Seattle and they headed towards Leavenworth for the weekend. He figured they would have better weather, a nice hike, and then he would pop the question, BUT Mother Nature had different ideas. They did go on the hike, but it was a cold, drizzly hike. They got to the top where they were supposed to be able to see some amazing views, but because of the weather they couldn’t see anything. Before Sarah knew it, Doug was saying all sorts of sweet things, and then he got down on one knee and asked him to marry her. Their friends (you know, the ones that were married in 2012) had been with them on the hike, and they helped them celebrate with champagne after Sarah said yes!
