I moved to Mattawa when I was 13, and I remember Keitra Jane being this adorable little girl, with little piggy tails, following her gorgeous momma around church.
Fourteen years later and that adorable little girl grew up to be one of the MOST gorgeous girls ever to come out of Mattawa.  As she’s grown up, people had started to notice how similar she looks to someone that maybe you have heard of before. Taylor Swift. Last year, Keitra was in a Taylor Swift Look-Alike contest to be part of a music video for past “America’s Got Talent” singer, Alex Boye. She ended up winning the contest, got to be a HUGE part of the video, and, looks like, had a blast doing it!! You can check out the video here!!
Unfortunately, that new found fame lead to some of those pesky internet trolls out there doing what they do best and saying some not very nice things about her on Youtube. Some mentioned that she was a “fatter version of Taylor” and some even said more inappropriate comments. Keitra responded to one of the internet trolls with “thanks for the feedback!” This girl is seriously, brilliant.
Where some people would let this new fame and internet trolls get them down, Keitra has fought back with a new stand against internet bullying, and the effects that it has with body dysmorphia. It’s all too often that girls now-a-days see the internet, tv, and social media of all these famous girls that are too thin, too fat, too much muscle, not enough abs, too much abs, and the list goes on. We try to give into what Hollywood thinks is the “perfect female” and it, in turn, eats away at us. Some girls turn to eating disorders, some to exercise disorders, and others just feel bad about themselves continually.
Keitra so eloquently put it like this on Instagram “bullying contributes to disordered eating, as well as other issues that contribute to and come from low self esteem.”
Sad, but true.
She has gotten to be a part of some pretty awesome things since her debut as Taylor’s doppelganger, including getting to be on the Steve Harvey show! They managed to cut of a good chunk of what she said, but seriously, this girl is just amazing.
The way she carries herself, her confidence, you would NEVER guess that she had issues with body dysmorphia. So all the while she was getting to have all these amazing experiences, I kept thinking how I needed to reach out to her and see if she would want to collaborate sometime. I kept following her on Instagram, but she was so busy I figured she just didn’t have the time, and low and behold, that day, she direct messaged me and asked me that very question! She was going to be home for a few days during her spring break, and had some time, so we made it happen!!! She had mentioned she wanted it a 60’s inspired shoot, and I absolutely LOVED that idea!
We had a lot of fun shooting in the apricot blossoms around Mattawa, trying to not get stung by bees, me climbing trees trying not to fall out of trees, and laughing at each other. Then we headed down to the cliffs around Vantage where I have been eyeballing for sometime now. They’re just gorgeous this time of year because they’re green, and gorgeous and the view is amazing. I knew we just had to head down there.
